Pune, April 13, 2026: The Maharashtra government has undertaken conservation and restoration work at Shri Mahaganpati Temple under the Ashtavinayak development plan, leading to the temporary closure of the temple for devotees from April 15 to July 31, 2026.

The restoration project, being carried out by the Archaeology Department, includes structural repairs as well as preservation and improvement of the temple premises. Work has been in progress over the past three months and is currently underway at an advanced stage.

In view of the ongoing repairs, the temple trust committee passed a resolution to temporarily close the temple to the public. The decision has been approved by the Assistant Charity Commissioner, Pune region, who has issued the necessary orders.

During the closure period, daily rituals including pooja and abhishek, and other religious ceremonies will continue as per tradition. However, devotees will not be allowed entry into the temple premises or access to darshan. Entry will be restricted strictly to construction personnel, authorised officials, and trustees.

Authorities have stated that the development work is essential to ensure long-term structural safety, improved facilities, and a better experience for devotees. The Archaeology Department and temple trustees have appealed to devotees and local residents to cooperate with the administration during this period and support the timely completion of the project.
