Pune: Tourists Warned to Avoid Bhushi Dam Area Amid Heavy Rainfall in Lonavala
Lonavala, 14th July 2024:
Due to continuous heavy rainfall, the Lonavala Police have issued a safety advisory urging tourists to avoid the Bhushi Dam area. The dam, known for its picturesque views, has become hazardous as water cascades down its steps at high speed, creating a dangerous situation.
In the last 24 hours, Lonavala has recorded 241.5 mm of rain, worsening the conditions. The persistent rain since last Saturday has led to significant water accumulation, causing the Bhushi Dam to overflow. The forceful water flow now poses a severe risk to anyone near the dam.
Early this morning, police officials inspected the Bhushi Dam area and subsequently issued an urgent appeal for tourists to stay away. The rapid water flow can easily sweep individuals away, endangering their safety.
The waterfalls in the surrounding mountainous areas have also surged, adding to the hazards. The Lonavala Police, in collaboration with the municipal council administration, have advised tourists against stopping under these waterfalls or exploring the mountainous regions due to the potential dangers.
This year’s rainfall has already exceeded last year’s totals. With the ongoing misty rain, Lonavala is expecting a significant influx of tourists. The Lonavala Police continue to remind visitors to prioritize their safety and the safety of others while traveling in the area.
