Pune Traffic To Slow Down Again: PMC To Reinstall Speed Breakers On Ganeshkhind, Pashan And Senapati Bapat Road
Pune, February 02, 2026: Pune’s roads, which were upgraded for the international Pune Grand Tour cycling competition, are set to see traffic slow down once again. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to reinstall speed breakers on major city roads where they were earlier removed for the event. This move is aimed at controlling speeding vehicles and improving safety for pedestrians and senior citizens.
For the international cycling event, the civic body had carried out special repairs on nearly 75 km of roads within city limits. To ensure a smooth ride for cyclists, road chambers were leveled and speed breakers were removed, making the roads completely smooth.
However, after the competition concluded, vehicles began speeding on key stretches such as Ganeshkhind Road, Pashan Road and Senapati Bapat Road, making it difficult and risky for pedestrians—especially elderly citizens—to cross the roads.
Taking note of growing public concern, the PMC’s road department has now begun the process of reinstalling speed breakers. Officials clarified that these will not be traditional speed breakers but will be constructed scientifically as per IRC (Indian Roads Congress) standards, ensuring vehicle safety while effectively controlling speed.
The decision is expected to restore balance between smooth traffic flow and road safety across Pune’s major corridors.
