Pune: Truck Driver Killed Over Restaurant Bill Dispute in Wagholi, Accused Arrested
Pune: A 25-year-old container truck driver allegedly ran over and killed a fellow driver from the same transport company following a heated argument over a restaurant bill in Wagholi on Thursday night. The incident occurred around 10:15 PM in front of a warehouse.
Driver Tries to Flee, Caught on Pune-Ahmednagar Road
After the fatal collision, the accused attempted to flee the scene, ramming into three other transport vehicles in the process. However, bystanders pursued him on the Pune-Ahmednagar Road and handed him over to the Lonikand police.
Victim and Accused Identified
The deceased has been identified as Parmeshwar Balaji Devraye (35), while the arrested driver is Ram Datta Puri (25). A third truck driver, Ramchandra Pole (44), who was present during the altercation, has filed a police complaint.
Argument Over Dinner Bill Turns Deadly
According to police reports, the three truck drivers, all working for a Ranjangaon-based transport company, had gathered at the Wagholi warehouse on Thursday evening, waiting to unload their trucks. Around 8:30 PM, they visited a nearby restaurant for dinner.
While returning, Puri and Devraye got into an argument over who would pay the bill. The verbal dispute escalated, and upon reaching the warehouse parking area, Devraye slapped Puri. In retaliation, Puri got into his truck, threatened to “finish off” Devraye, and rammed his vehicle into him, killing him on the spot. The impact also damaged two other trucks and a pickup truck.
Security Guard’s Tip Leads to Arrest
After the collision, Puri fled the warehouse premises towards Ahmednagar. A security guard, who witnessed the incident, alerted the warehouse owner, who was nearby. The owner tracked the truck and found it stuck in a traffic jam at Tulapur Phata. He confronted Puri and handed him over to the police.
Police Investigation Underway
Senior Inspector Pandit Rejitwad of Wagholi police confirmed that Puri has been arrested and charged with culpable homicide. Further investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading to the fatal altercation.
