Pune: Truck Flouting Restricted Hours Kills 23-Year-Old Techie in Hinjewadi
Fatal accident on Maan Road raises fresh concerns over unchecked heavy vehicle movement during restricted hours
What Happened
A tragic accident in Pune’s Hinjewadi claimed the life of a 23-year-old software engineer, Yash Ravindra Kumbhare. The incident occurred on April 11 around 6:30 pm on Maan Road, when a truck rammed into his scooter.
Kumbhare, a native of Nagpur working in an IT company in Hinjewadi, suffered severe injuries in the crash. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Violation Of Restricted Timings
What makes the incident more serious is that the truck was operating during prohibited hours.
As per Pimpri Chinchwad traffic rules, heavy vehicles are banned from plying between 8 am to 12 pm and 4 pm to 9 pm in the area. Police confirmed that the driver violated this restriction, leading to the fatal accident.
Police Action Taken
Following the incident, the Hinjewadi police registered a case against the truck driver under serious charges.
The accused, a 46-year-old man from Mumbai, has been arrested under sections related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder and endangering life under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Why These Restrictions Exist
The ban on heavy vehicles in Hinjewadi and nearby areas was introduced after multiple fatal accidents involving trucks and construction vehicles.
Authorities imposed time restrictions to reduce congestion and improve safety for daily commuters, especially IT employees who heavily use these roads during peak hours.
Recurring Safety Concerns
Despite strict rules, violations continue to be reported frequently. Several past incidents have highlighted how heavy vehicles entering during restricted hours pose a serious risk to two-wheeler riders and pedestrians.
Residents and professionals in the area have repeatedly raised concerns over poor enforcement and increasing accidents, demanding stricter monitoring and accountability.
The Bigger Picture
This incident once again underlines a critical issue — rules alone are not enough without consistent enforcement.
As Hinjewadi continues to grow as a major IT hub, ensuring road safety through stricter checks, surveillance, and compliance by heavy vehicle operators has become more important than ever.
