Pune: Two Workers Killed, Three Injured In CO₂ Gas Leak At Schaeffler India Plant In Talegaon MIDC
Talegaon, Maharashtra, June 9, 2026:
A serious industrial accident occurred at the Schaeffler India company in Navlakh Umbre, located in the Talegaon MIDC area of Maval taluka, after a carbon dioxide (CO₂) gas leak at the plant.
According to preliminary information, the incident was initially suspected to be a gas cylinder explosion. However, authorities later confirmed that a CO₂ gas leak had taken place inside the factory.
Two workers, identified as Ganesh Umbre and Vaibhav Thorat, died on the spot. Three others — Shrikrishna Sahu, Gaurishankar Sharma, and Narsingh Patil — sustained serious injuries and were admitted to hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, company officials, MIDC security personnel, and police teams rushed to the site. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the gas leak, while precautionary measures have been implemented in the surrounding area.
The incident has caused panic in the Talegaon MIDC industrial belt, with workers and local residents expressing concern over safety at the facility. Further details are awaited.
