Pune: Wanowrie Police Launch Special Drive At Kedari Chowk And Samvidhan Chowk; Action Taken Against Illegal Stalls And Traffic Violations
Pune, June 9, 2026: In a special enforcement drive conducted between 7:30 pm and 9:00 pm on Sunday, officials from Wanowrie Police Station, along with the Detection Branch (DB) staff, outpost personnel, and traffic police officers, carried out a joint operation in the Kedari Circle and Samvidhan Chowk areas to address traffic congestion and public inconvenience.
During the drive, Senior Police Inspector Pandit Rejitwad and his team interacted with hotel owners, food vendors, and business operators in the popular food street (Khau Galli). They urged traders to remove roadside stalls that obstruct pedestrian movement and contribute to traffic congestion, particularly affecting senior citizens, women, and children.
Police officials also instructed business owners to ensure that unauthorized parking is not allowed outside hotels and ice cream parlours. They were advised to take measures to prevent noise pollution, immediately report any suspicious persons or objects to the police, keep CCTV systems operational, and maintain heightened vigilance during nighttime hours.
As part of the enforcement action, cases were registered against 18 unauthorized handcart vendors operating on footpaths. The Traffic Branch also issued penalties to individuals and vehicles causing obstructions to the smooth flow of traffic.
According to Wanowrie Police, the special drive at Samvidhan Chowk resulted in:
- 32 penal actions for causing traffic obstruction.
- 5 actions against vehicles parked on footpaths.
- 18 actions against encroachments and obstacles affecting traffic movement.
Police officials stated that such drives will continue in the area to improve traffic management, enhance public safety, and ensure smooth movement for pedestrians and motorists alike.
