Pune, April 14, 2026: A proposed restructuring of ward offices by the Pune Municipal Corporation has come under review after Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar raised concerns over its potential impact on residents and urged the state government to reassess the plan.

In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Pawar highlighted that altering long-standing ward boundaries could make access to civic services more difficult, particularly for residents in fast-developing areas such as Wagholi, Kharadi, Dhanori, and Kalas. She stressed that any such changes should prioritize public convenience and administrative efficiency.

Following her communication, the Chief Minister has sought an explanation from the municipal commissioner regarding the reasoning behind the restructuring and its likely consequences for citizens.

The proposal has also sparked political criticism. Nilesh Nikam, Leader of the Opposition in the civic body, questioned the intent behind the changes, alleging that they may be politically motivated and could influence control over key ward offices.

Concerns have also been raised about practical challenges for residents. Under the proposed changes, people in some areas may need to travel longer distances to access ward offices, leading to inconvenience in availing basic civic services.

With the issue gaining both administrative and political attention, the state government is expected to review the proposal in detail before taking any final decision.
