Pune: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds, and light to moderate rains in various parts of India for the next five days, from 14 to 18 March. The alert comes as heavy clouds were reported in many areas of the country this morning.

Maharashtra has been put on high alert for the next five days, with the IMD warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. There is also a possibility of hailstorms in some areas.

The IMD has also predicted gusty winds of 30-40 kmph along with scattered rainfall and thunderstorms in several states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand from Wednesday to Friday.

According to IMD, the reason behind this is due to interaction between mid and upper tropospheric westerly trough/dronika rekha and lower-level easterly winds. Whereas, few areas may receive precipitation.
