Selling Ready-to-Eat Local Snacks At 82: Borivali Elderly 'Dada’s' Quiet Dignity And Work Ethic Win The Internet
Elderly Mumbai man selling farsan and chivda goes viral for fairness, humility and resilience
An 82-year-old snack seller from Mumbai’s Borivali has captured hearts online after a video of him working calmly on a busy street went viral, earning widespread admiration for his dignity, fairness and unwavering work ethic.
The elderly man sells ready-to-eat local snacks such as farsan, chivda and chakli in Borivali’s Sai Baba Nagar area. In the now widely shared clip, he is seen managing his small stall with quiet confidence, interacting politely with customers and carefully keeping track of his earnings. What stood out most for viewers, however, was not just his age, but the values with which he runs his business.
Speaking in Hindi in the video, the vendor explains that he works with three women who prepare the snacks, while he handles the selling. “There are four of us in total. Whatever profit we earn from customers, we divide among ourselves. No one gets less, no one gets more,” he says, underlining his belief in equality and shared effort.
He adds that he maintains a small notepad to ensure transparency in accounts. “Yes, I write everything down, like how much stock was sold, what the profit is, and we calculate everything together,” he explains. The simple system, he says, helps avoid disputes and ensures fairness for everyone involved.
The man reveals that he started this small venture during the Covid-19 pandemic, after having worked a regular service job earlier in life. Asked how he feels about continuing to work at an age when most people have long retired, he responds with quiet acceptance and humility: “Chalta hai, koi baat nahi.”
Towards the end of the video, the content creator filming the clip tells the vendor that his followers had requested him to buy something from “Dada” as a mark of encouragement. The elderly man folds his hands and asks him to buy whatever he likes. When told to pack everything on the stall, the vendor thanks him with a gentle smile, visibly moved but unassuming.

The video concludes with an appeal to viewers to support the vendor if they are in the Borivali area. It was also shared on X with the caption, “He is 82 years old and still working,” prompting a wave of emotional responses.
Social media users praised his outlook and independence, with one person writing, “He is living with dignity. Why do we see it with sympathy? He enjoys his livelihood.”
Another commented, “Very good to see someone active at age 82. Retirement is a state of mind.”
Several others lauded his honesty, calm demeanour and disciplined approach to life.
In a city often defined by speed and struggle, the Borivali vendor’s story has struck a chord, a reminder that purpose, self-respect and hard work do not come with an expiry date.
