Early Wednesday morning, residents of Kalamb village in Indapur taluka were alarmed when a severed human leg was discovered along the Kalamb Nimsakhar road, approximately 130 km from Pune city.

The limb, cut below the knee and believed to belong to a middle-aged male, immediately drew the attention of the Pune rural police.

Officials from Walchandnagar police station confirmed that a local villager spotted the leg around 7:30 am and informed authorities. Police rushed to the scene, supported by a canine squad, forensic specialists, and personnel from the Local Crime Branch.

Preliminary examination suggests the leg was clothed with a sock, and a nearby gunny bag may be connected to the incident. Forensic experts are analyzing tissue for signs of decomposition and tool marks to determine the nature of the injury.

The area surrounding the site is mostly covered with sugarcane fields, complicating search efforts. Authorities have coordinated with local volunteers to comb through the fields for additional evidence or potential human remains.

Investigators are also exploring whether the limb was dumped from a moving vehicle, given the road’s proximity to district borders, leading to collaboration with neighboring police units.

Police are reviewing missing person reports from Pune and nearby districts and collecting CCTV footage from approach routes to the location.

All possibilities, including foul play or accidents, are being investigated thoroughly. The unsettling discovery has caused concern among villagers, prompting police to urge calm and request public cooperation with ongoing investigations.
