Survey Identifies 25 Major Traffic Congestion Hotspots In Pimpri-Chinchwad
Pimpri-Chinchwad, September 16, 2024 – A joint survey conducted by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has identified 25 critical hotspots for traffic congestion in the rapidly growing industrial township. These areas face frequent traffic jams due to narrow roads, ongoing construction, metro works, and rapid urbanization.
In an initial step toward alleviating congestion, the municipal corporation removed a traffic island at Shivar Chowk in Pimple Saudagar, a key junction on the Nashik Phata-Hinjawadi BRTS route. This location is one of the most congested areas in the city, and removing the island is expected to provide some relief.
Pimpri-Chinchwad’s rapid growth, with industrial parks, IT hubs, educational institutions, and malls, has led to an increase in population, now exceeding 3 million. As the number of vehicles rises, traffic jams have become routine, particularly in densely populated areas such as Wakad, Hinjawadi, Nigdi, and Bhosari. Commuters are often stuck in traffic for hours, especially during peak evening hours.
