Teen's Drunk Driving Incident Revives Memories Of Pune Porsche Case
A recent SUV crash on the Pune-Nashik highway has brought back memories of the May 19 Porsche accident that claimed two lives. An SUV driven by a 17-year-old student from a central government-run residential engineering college in Dighi jumped a divider, killing an autorickshaw driver and injuring two motorcyclists.
The minor, who admitted to being drunk during the accident, is from Haryana, and his father is an Army Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) posted in a northeastern state. The autorickshaw driver, Amod Kamble (27), died on the spot, while the teenage driver and his 20-year-old friend escaped with minor injuries.
Murtuza Bohra, whose cousin Hujefa Bohra was among the injured, described the scene as “an action sequence from a movie.” Bohra said the SUV jumped the divider, hitting the auto, his cousin’s scooter, and a motorcycle.
The police have invoked drunk driving and other charges against the minor, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving on public road, and act endangering personal safety of others . The minor has been sent to an observation home, and the police are investigating all angles, including where the duo purchased liquor.
This incident raises concerns about underage drinking and driving, echoing the Pune Porsche case where a 17-year-old boy drove his Porsche over two IT professionals while drunk . The police are working to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
