Tragedy at Palkhi Procession: Freelance Photographer Kalyan Chattopadhyay Dies in Accident
Kalyan Chattopadhyay, a freelance photographer from West Bengal, dies in an accident during the Ringan ceremony of the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi procession in Malshiras.
A tragic accident during the Ringan ceremony of the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi procession has claimed the life of Kalyan Chattopadhyay, a 48-year-old freelance photographer from Baranagar, West Bengal. The incident occurred around 3:30 PM at Sadashivnagar in Malshiras, Solapur district.
According to local police, the accident happened when the horses participating in the Ringan ceremony were running in circles. The right hind leg of one horse became entangled in the reins of another. This caused the horse to stumble and fall into the crowd of devotees and pilgrims. Chattopadhyay, who was among the spectators, sustained serious injuries.
Chattopadhyay was immediately transported to the sub-district hospital in Akluj by ambulance. Tragically, doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Police confirmed that an unnatural death case has been registered at the Akluj Police Station in Solapur rural district.
Kalyan Chattopadhyay was in Maharashtra to cover the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi procession as part of his work as a freelance travel photographer. His untimely death has cast a shadow over the vibrant and devotional event, which sees thousands of Varkaris and devotees gather to celebrate and honor Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj.
In a related incident, Vinayak Yashwant Pawar, a 65-year-old Warkari from Narangwadi, Umaraga Taluka, Dharashiv district, suffered a heart attack and passed away in Akluj. Pawar was participating in the Palkhi procession at Vijay Chowk when he experienced the fatal heart attack.
The tragic incidents have brought attention to the safety measures at such large-scale religious events, with many calling for improved precautions to prevent such occurrences in the future.
