Pune: Taking strict action against the unauthorized rooftops operating in the Pimpri Chinchwad area, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has removed encroachments from several unauthorized rooftops in many hotels.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Vijaykumar Sarnaik, Assistant Commissioner, PCMC, Land & Estates Department said, “So far, we have removed 9 illegal rooftops of several hotels in the city. This rooftop encroachments removal exercise will continue until all illegal rooftops are removed from PCMC.”

As per the information, action was taken against rooftop hotels in Thergaon, Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Vishalnagar, Rahatani etc. Sarnaik informed that in a survey the PCMC has identified 49 illegal rooftop hotels in the area. He further informed that the action had been initiated by the field office.

Municipal officials said that there is no concept of a rooftop hotel in the Integrated Building Control Regulations. So far, the PCMC has not permitted any hotel to operate rooftop hotels. Many times, permission is taken for a restaurant in a place where there is some official construction on the terrace and an illegal hotel etc is set up on the terrace adjacent to this construction. Some ‘rooftop’ hotels in the city are allowed to run this way. However, some hotels are completely illegal. Those who have permission get a license to sell liquor too on that basis and build big hotels occupying the entire terrace. However, those who do not have permission or fail to get permission will be removed by the PCMC.
