The forms for the registration process of RTE (Right to Education) will commence on 16th April and go on till 30th April. It is one of the most awaited events for parents of underprivileged children when it comes to providing them with adequate education.

Sharad Gosavi, chairperson of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Education, was elated to announce the commencement of the registration process. RTE admissions provide the underprivileged and economically backward strata of children the opportunity to have access to quality education and make careers for themselves. There has been an update in the process from last year, which implies that a student can avail a self-financed school in case there are no government aided or local schools within the radius of 1 km around their residence. This is primarily for students who live in remote rural areas with almost no access to roads.

While selecting schools, the preference will be in the order of aided schools, government schools, local self-government schools and finally, self-financed schools. This kind of prioritisation will help students obtain an institute near their residence based on the resources they have. Parents are given a choice to opt between a local school or an aided school for the education of their children under the Right to Education Act.

Admissions will be granted in the Municipal, City Council, Nagar Panchayat, Katak Mandal, Zilla Parishad, Municipal Self-financed schools, Private aided schools as well as self-financed schools. The only exception here are the minority schools as they will not accept admissions under the RTE process. There will be a system of drawing lots in case the number of applications for a school exceeds the number of seats available in the school.

Changes in the RTE process have led to a surge in the number of seats available this year, which amounts to 9,72,838 seats across more than 75,000 schools in Maharashtra under the RTE Act. Parents are required to submit the forms until 30th April. As per Sharad Gosavi, the process will be looked into carefully and managed by the state board education department.
