Pune: The Maharashtra government has approved a ₹4,503 crore budget for the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) for the financial year 2025-26. The budget, which prioritizes improved connectivity and infrastructure development, was sanctioned in a meeting held in Mumbai under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also heads PMRDA. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, and PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase.

The budget includes key infrastructure projects such as:

  • ₹636 crore for road network development around the proposed Purandar International Airport.
  • ₹203 crore for cement roads in the Ranjangaon and Hinjawadi industrial zones.
  • ₹1,526 crore for constructing road networks under the Urban Growth Center initiative in PMRDA’s draft development plan.
  • ₹250 crore for purchasing 500 new PMPML buses.
  • Yerwada-Katraj Twin Tunnel project to improve urban connectivity.

A significant portion of the budget is allocated for improving connectivity between the proposed Purandar Airport and major highways like Pune-Satara and Pune-Nagar roads. CM Fadnavis emphasized the need for a two-phase development approach—prioritizing essential infrastructure like roads, drainage, water supply, power distribution, crematoriums, and burial grounds in the first phase, followed by other facilities in the second phase. The government is also considering implementing new technology for water recycling projects to accommodate the growing population.
