10 Upcoming High-Speed Expressways That Will Change Highway Travel in India
In the coming years, 25 greenfield high-speed national highway corridors will be constructed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. Here are 10 expressways that will transform road travel in India:
1. Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is an under-construction, 1,386-kilometre-long expressway that will reduce travel time between the two cities to just 12 hours. It will traverse the states and UTs of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Maharashtra.
2. Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Expressway
This expressway from Varanasi to Kolkata via Ranchi will be an access-controlled corridor covering 612 kilometres, crossing Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. It will cut travel time from 15 hours to just 9 hours.
3. Hyderabad-Vishakhapatnam Expressway
The Hyderabad to Vishakhapatnam expressway, running through Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, will cover a distance of 222 kilometres.
4. Delhi-Dehradun Expressway
The Delhi to Dehradun expressway via Saharanpur will be an access-controlled corridor covering Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The 239-kilometre-long expressway will cut travel time to 2.5 hours.
5. Surat-Nashik-Solapur Expressway
The Surat-Nashik-Ahmednagar-Solapur expressway will be access-controlled, covering a distance of 730 kilometres through Gujarat and Maharashtra.
6. Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway
Covering a distance of 669 kilometres, the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway will cut travel time between Delhi and Katra to just 6 hours. It will run through Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir.
7. Indore-Hyderabad Expressway
The Indore to Hyderabad expressway will cover a distance of 525 kilometres, traversing Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Telangana.
8. Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway
The Kanpur to Lucknow Expressway will cover a distance of 63 kilometres in Uttar Pradesh, cutting the travel time to just over 30 minutes.
9. Amritsar-Bhatinda-Jamnagar Expressway
This expressway from Amritsar to Jamnagar via Bhatinda will cover a distance of 917 kilometres. The access-controlled expressway will run through Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
10. Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway
The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway will cover a distance of 262 kilometres, reducing the travel time between the two cities to just 2 hours. It will cover the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
