10-Year-Old Girl Dies After Falling Into Ventilation Duct of Thane Building
A devastating accident occurred in Thane district, Maharashtra, where a 10-year-old girl lost her life after falling into a ventilation duct of a 10-storey residential building. The incident took place at the Shraddha Prati building in Samrat Nagar, Mumbra, and was reported to the Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell at 11:48 PM on Monday.
The young girl, who did not live in the building, somehow found her way inside under unclear circumstances. She fell into a vertical ventilation duct that runs through the structure. A loud thud was heard by a resident, who quickly alerted others. They discovered the child lying motionless at the bottom of the shaft.
Emergency services, including the Mumbra police, fire brigade, regional disaster management team, and a private ambulance, arrived swiftly. Despite the narrow and challenging conditions within the duct, fire brigade officials managed to retrieve the child. She was rushed to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and the Mumbra police have registered a case of accidental death. An investigation is underway to determine how the girl accessed the hazardous area and whether any safety violations contributed to the incident.
A civic official involved in the rescue operation stressed the urgent need to address the safety concerns posed by open ventilation ducts in high-rise buildings, particularly where children are concerned. Authorities have also called on parents and guardians to be extra cautious, keeping children away from unsafe areas within residential complexes.
The victim was a resident of Mumbradevi Apartment in Thakurpada, Mumbra. This tragic incident highlights the critical need for stringent safety measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
