1,000 New E-Buses Proposed To Central Govt To Strengthen Public Transport In PuneĀ As Pune continues to expand its metro network, efforts are underway to enhance the PMPML (Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited) bus service. A proposal has been submitted to the Union Minister for Heavy Industries, H.D. Kumaraswamy, for 1,000 new electric buses (E-buses) under the Modi governmentās initiative. This proposal highlights the current bus count in Pune, the growing demand, and future requirements. Minister Kumaraswamy has directed officials to take immediate action on the proposal.
Since the Narendra Modi-led government came to power in 2014, alongside the Devendra Fadnavis-led state government, Pune has witnessed significant and well-planned development. Under Modi’s leadership, the foundation for Pune Metro was laid to strengthen public transport. Two routesāVanaz to Ramwadi and PCMC to Swargate, spanning 33 kilometersāare fully operational, and work on the Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar metro line has begun. Recently, the foundation stone was laid for the Swargate to Katraj underground metro route, and the state government has approved two new phases, Khadakwasla to Kharadi and Nal Stop to Manik Bagh.
While the metro network expands, PMPML is also receiving continuous support from the Modi government. So far, over 450 E-buses have been provided to Pune, and now, with the proposal for an additional 1,000 E-buses, the city aims to further improve public transport. This move will ensure that Pune residents have access to timely and convenient public transportation options.
