Maharashtra Weather Update: IMD Issues Yellow and Orange Alerts for 28 Districts on August 29
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed 15 of Maharashtra’s 36 districts under red and orange alerts for the next two days as heavy rainfall continues to lash several parts of the state. Mumbai, witnessing its third consecutive day of intense showers on Monday, recorded 177 mm of rainfall in just 6–8 hours, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said. He urged citizens to remain cautious, warning of more rain and high tides ahead.
Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad also witnessed heavy rainfall, with the IMD placing the region under a yellow alert, warning of more showers in the coming days.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared a holiday for all schools and colleges scheduled to start classes post-12 pm on Monday due to waterlogging and safety concerns. According to IMD, Mumbai is expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall across the city and suburbs, with the possibility of very heavy showers and gusty winds by night. Day temperatures are forecast between 24°C and 27°C.
Several arterial roads, including Andheri Subway and Lokhandwala Complex, were submerged, severely affecting traffic flow. Suburban train services, considered Mumbai’s lifeline, were delayed by 15–20 minutes, while BEST bus services remained unaffected, officials confirmed.
