22-Year-Old Pune Girl Drowns at Anjarle Beach, Dapoli – Swept Away by Strong Wave During Trip with Friends

Dapoli, Maharashtra – A tragic incident occurred this evening at Ketki Beach, Anjarle, where a 22-year-old tourist from Pune drowned while swimming. The victim, identified as Tanvi Nilesh Parkhi, was swept away by a strong wave.
According to police reports, a group of 12 friends—6 girls and 6 boys—from Pune left for Anjarle around 4:00 AM on Saturday for a weekend trip. They arrived at Ketki Beach Resort in Anjarle by approximately 11:00 AM.
Later in the day, around 4:30 PM, the group went swimming in the sea. While they were enjoying the water, a sudden large wave hit. Tanvi, a resident of Vishrantwadi, Pune, was unable to gauge the strength of the wave and lost control, eventually drowning.
Her friends immediately alerted local villagers, who rushed to the spot and managed to pull her out of the water. However, she was found unconscious. Tanvi was quickly taken to the Dapoli sub-district hospital, where medical officers declared her dead on arrival.
Police at Dapoli station have begun formal documentation of the incident. Notably, this is not the first such tragedy at this location—three other tourists have reportedly drowned in the same stretch of sea in previous incidents.
With the onset of summer vacations, tourist traffic to Dapoli’s beaches has increased significantly, raising concerns about coastal safety and the need for lifeguard presence.
