25 Visually Impaired Students from Pune Set for Himalayan Trek in May
A thrilling adventure awaits 25 visually impaired students from Pune’s Mamata Andh Anaath Kalyan Kendra as they prepare to embark on a trek to the majestic Himalayas. Organized by the renowned mountaineering organization Giripremi, this excursion promises to be a transformative experience for the participants.
Scheduled to kick off on May 17, 2024, and concluding on May 24, 2024, the journey will see all 25 students traveling via the Duronto Express train. Prior to finalizing the arrangements, the students and their parents were briefed about the trip, ensuring their consent and participation.
Giripremi, known for its commitment to youth development, regularly organizes such expeditions. Among the 38 students at the Kendra, those aged between 18 and 25 have been selected for this adventure, representing institutions like Modern College and Fergusson College in Pune.
“The students are brimming with excitement for this trek, marking their first venture beyond Pune. While they’ve explored local landmarks such as Sinhagad Fort and Raigad Fort, this opportunity to witness the Himalayan beauty is truly special, courtesy of the NGO Giripremi,” remarked Tushar Kamble, President of Mamata Andh Anaath Kalyan Kendra.
However, due to health concerns such as diabetes and hypertension, only 25 out of the 38 students are able to participate. Nonetheless, the Kendra is ensuring that all necessary gear, including warm clothing, footwear, and backpacks, is provided through funding support.
Prior to the expedition, professional trainers will equip all participants with the requisite skills and knowledge, ensuring a safe and memorable journey amidst the breathtaking Himalayan landscapes.
