In a tragic incident, a 30-year-old man, identified as Darshit Raju Bhai Seth, ended his life by jumping off the Mumbai Coastal Road bridge. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening near the bowstring arch bridge connecting the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.

Incident Details

Darshit Seth, a resident of Malad, Mumbai, worked at a private company in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). After leaving work on Tuesday, he drove toward the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and parked his car near the arch bridge. A traffic officer noticed his parked vehicle with its lights on and approached to inquire. However, before the officer could reach him, Darshit jumped into the sea.

Upon being alerted, police personnel stationed near the bridge, along with the Coast Guard and Navy, initiated a rescue operation. Despite efforts, his body could not be found due to darkness and low visibility.

Body Recovered Next Day

The next morning, local fishermen spotted Darshit’s body floating under the bridge and informed authorities. Mumbai Police and the fire brigade retrieved the body and sent it to Nair Hospital for post-mortem.

Unclear Reason for Suicide

Police contacted Darshit’s family through his mobile phone. He was a graduate and had married just four months ago. However, the exact reason behind his suicide remains unknown. An accidental death report has been filed at Worli Police Station, and further investigation is underway.

This marks the first suicide on the newly inaugurated Coastal Road bridge. Authorities continue to probe the circumstances leading to the incident.
