32-Year-Old Suffers Heart Attack While Driving to Hospital, Kills Pedestrian in Navi Mumbai
NAVI MUMBAI: A 32-year-old executive suffered a heart attack while driving to the hospital and lost control of his vehicle at a busy intersection in Kalamboli, killing a pedestrian and damaging two parked cars during the Monday morning rush hour.
The driver, Aniket Nalawade, had earlier complained of chest pain and was advised immediate hospital admission after an ECG by his family doctor in Taloja Phase II showed signs of a mild cardiac arrest. He was en route to a nearby hospital with his wife when he collapsed behind the wheel near Kalamboli Circle around 10.30am.
The white mini SUV veered off course, ramming into two stationary cars and hitting a pedestrian. Traffic police from a nearby chowki responded swiftly. Nalawade’s wife flagged down an autorickshaw, and with the help of officers, transported both her husband and the injured pedestrian to White Lotus Hospital.
The pedestrian, later identified as 20-year-old Om Tambe, a housekeeping staffer at the same hospital, succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, Nalawade, who had also sustained an injury to his left eye, was revived with CPR and underwent an emergency angioplasty under the care of senior cardiologist Dr Anuj Sathe. He remains in the ICU.
Dr Rahul Peddawad described Nalawade’s survival as “miraculous.”
Senior police inspector Rajendra Kote confirmed that Nalawade has been booked for causing death by rash and negligent driving, though his family has not yet been informed due to his ongoing treatment.
