65-Year-Old Man Booked for Misbehaving with Woman Passenger in Pune Metro
Pune, September 10, 2025: Metro has long been considered one of the safest modes of transport for women, offering better security and facilities compared to other public transport systems. However, a recent incident has raised serious concerns about women’s safety in Pune Metro.
A shocking case has come to light from the busy Mahatma Phule Mandai area, where a 65-year-old man misbehaved with a woman while traveling in the metro. A case has been registered against him by the Vishrambaug police.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon (September 9), when the accused repeatedly stared at the woman, made inappropriate gestures, and even attempted to take her pictures using a mobile phone camera. Noticing his behavior, the woman immediately reported the matter to the metro security guards. The accused was detained and brought to the Mandai police chowki.
The man, identified as a native of Muzaffarnagar, Bihar, has been booked under charges of obscene behavior. Police have issued him a notice, and is investigating the matter.
This case adds to the growing list of crimes in Pune, a city otherwise known as an education hub, IT hub, and cultural capital. Rising incidents of harassment, assaults, and crimes in recent days have raised serious questions about women’s safety in the city.
