In a shocking incident, poor eating habits led a child to lose his eyesight forever. A deficiency of Vitamin A is said to be the cause of this permanent loss of his eyesight. The shocking incident took place in a primary school in Malaysia. The child is in his second grade. While in school, all of a sudden, he started shouting that he could not see anything. The child in utter despair screamed and said, “Teacher, why can’t I see anything”. The teacher then immediately rushed him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with extreme Vitamin A deficiency.  The teacher informed the child’s condition to parents and urged them to take care of the child’s nutrients.

According to reports, the Vitamin A deficiency led to the permanent loss of eyesight due to fussy eating habits that included only chicken nuggets, sausages, and cookies since infancy. The child was extremely deficient in a vitamin that was necessary for keeping optical nerves healthy, according to the doctor’s report.

Vitamin A is a key component in rhodopsin, a light-sensitive protein that helps produce pigments in the retina, which helps with vision in low-light areas.

It is worthy to note that because of the child’s poor dietary choices only a limited amount of nutrients could reach his body, leaving all the essential nutrients for healthy growth behind. This nutrient deficiency led to the case of optic neuropathy leading the child to permanent eye-sight loss and making him blind forever.
