Pune's Pothole Repair Farce Exposed: Claims of 478 Repairs in a Single Night Under Scrutiny
Pune has been battered by heavy rains recently, exposing poor quality roadwork by the municipal corporation. After receiving complaints, Union Minister Murli Dhar Mohol took action, prompting the municipal road department to address the issue. The department claimed that 478 potholes were filled in a single night as part of an intensive repair drive starting Saturday night.
Led by Chief Engineer Aniruddha Pawsakar, engineers worked overnight to repair potholes on major roads and intersections. The operation continued until Sunday morning, to repair more potholes in subsequent nights. Despite these efforts, Punekars are frustrated as potholes continue to plague the city.
The municipal corporation had previously claimed to have repaired 8,378 out of 8,418 potholes reported between March 1 and July 31. However, the claim that only 40 potholes remained to be fixed raises questions as 478 more were reportedly repaired in a single night. This discrepancy has led to concerns about whether the repair efforts were adequate or if incorrect information was provided.
The city faces ongoing challenges with road maintenance and waterlogging, exacerbating traffic congestion and public dissatisfaction.
