The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in various parts of Maharashtra, with a yellow alert issued in several areas for the next 48 hours.

A yellow alert has been issued for the Konkan region, including Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Palghar, and Thane districts, as well as the ghats of Mumbai Metropolitan (MM) region, including Pune, Satara, and Nashik.

In Pune city, cloudy skies with thunderstorms and light to moderate intense spells of rain are expected, with overall light rainfall likely. However, the ghats of Pune have been placed under a yellow alert, with isolated heavy rainfall expected.

Heavy rains have already started in Pune and Satara districts, leading to a large amount of discharge from Ujani and Veer dams. This has increased the risk of flooding in Pandharpur, prompting the administration to appeal to citizens to be vigilant.

The situation is particularly concerning in Pandharpur, where a major flood occurred in 2006 after the natural release of water from Ujani dam and Veer dam. With all dams full at the beginning of August and two months of rain still to go, the risk of flooding remains high.
