Zomato Delivery Agent Battles Rain and Traffic to Find Customer, Sparks Outrage Online
Viral video shows a Zomato agent struggling through heavy rain and traffic to deliver food, raising questions about customer sensitivity and delivery worker safety.
A video of a Zomato delivery agent navigating through pouring rain and congested traffic to locate a customer has sparked widespread outrage on social media. The clip, which was shared on an Instagram page called Delhi Visit, shows the delivery worker braving the elements on the Mehrauli-Gurugram Road, trying to fulfill an order placed by someone stuck in traffic. The incident has ignited a debate over the treatment of delivery workers during extreme weather conditions.
The short video begins with a text overlay reading, “Somebody ordered food in the traffic jam,” setting the stage for what is seen as an unusual and challenging situation. The agent is shown holding a food package in one hand and speaking on his phone with the other, drenched from the rain and clearly struggling to locate the customer amid the chaos.
Instagram users reacted to the clip saying
“Respect to such hardworking people who, despite the bad weather, delivered you your stuff.”
Another slammed the customer who ordered food and commented, “This is so inhuman. Respect everyone. It’s raining.”
A third expressed, “Not cool. I know he’s earning, but is it worth the amount?”
A fourth wrote, “Talk about privilege; Delhi NCR tops the list.
The video has garnered over 2.4 lakh views and nearly 3,000 likes, sparking a flood of comments.
Many viewers criticized the customer for placing an order in such conditions, describing it as “inhuman” and “insensitive.” Others have directed their frustrations toward Zomato, arguing that delivery services should be suspended during extreme weather to protect the safety of workers.
This incident comes on the heels of a similar event in which another delivery agent was seen wading through waist-high water to complete a delivery. While many people praised the dedication of these workers, the videos have raised serious concerns about the pressures faced by gig economy employees during hazardous weather.
As the debate grows, many are calling on food delivery platforms like Zomato to reconsider their policies and put the safety of their workers first, particularly in severe weather conditions, rather than prioritizing uninterrupted service at the expense of their staff’s well-being
