The wildlife division of the Pune Forest Department is set to conduct two separate studies focused on the conservation of the giant squirrel that is native for western ghat ecosystem and the management of habitats and threat assessment for the Indian gazelle that is native for grassland ecosystem.

These studies are meant to help the department create a conservation plan by gathering basic information about the populations of these two animals and their environments.

Tushar Chavan, the deputy conservator of forests (wildlife) at the Pune Forest Department, stated, “The department plans to carry out two distinct scientific studies: one focused on conserving the Indian Giant Squirrel that is native to the and the other on managing the habitat and assessing the threats to the Indian Gazelle. Both studies are crucial for gathering scientific information and determining the conservation strategy.”

The study on the Indian Giant Squirrel will concentrate on necessary conservation measures, while the research on the Indian Gazelle will examine its habitat, behavioral patterns, and the threats it faces. A forest official mentioned that this groundbreaking study will not only aid in conservation efforts but also facilitate the collection of important data for future research.
