The Deccan College Postgraduate and Research Institute, a deemed university, inaugurated its digital library ‘Virasat’ and a library app during its 13th convocation and 203rd Foundation Day on Sunday.
Developed in collaboration with Indian startup VIR Softech Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, the digital library aims to preserve valuable knowledge and heritage.
The library was launched in the presence of Prof Pramod Pandey, vice chancellor of Deccan College, and chief guest Prashant Dhakefalkar, director of the Agharkar Research Institute.
The digital library can be accessed at [virasat.dcpune.ac.in](https://virasat.dcpune.ac.in/jspui/).
The Virasat repository includes a wide range of materials, such as rare manuscripts, pothis, and books published between 1523 and 1960. Additionally, it features the university’s annual research bulletins, PhD theses, MA dissertations, annual reports, maps, and toposheets.
The library also holds a wealth of non-print collections, including audio-visual materials like audio and video cassettes, gramophone discs, CDs, microfilms, and microfiche.
With this initiative, Deccan College seeks to provide researchers, students, and the public easy access to its vast collection of historical and academic resources. The launch marks a significant milestone in its efforts to digitize and preserve its intellectual heritage.
