Crowd chaos at Bandra railway station leaves several injured, with two in critical condition as the festival rush intensifies.
A stampede at Platform number 1, Bandra Railway Station, one of the key stations on the Western Railway line, left nine passengers injured early this morning. The injured have been taken to Bhabha Hospital for treatment, with two reported to be in critical condition. The incident occurred around 6 AM.
Preliminary reports suggest that a large crowd had gathered at Bandra Terminus to board the Bandra-Gorakhpur train. With the holiday season in full swing, extra trains have been arranged from Bandra Station to accommodate passengers traveling for Diwali. The stampede was triggered when a heavy rush of passengers converged simultaneously on Platform 1, leading to overcrowding.
The Western Railway authorities have confirmed that, among the injured, two passengers are in a critical state and are undergoing intensive treatment. The festival season has led to an increased number of special trains departing from Bandra, aimed at facilitating travel to northern states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. These additional trains are intended to manage the high volume of travelers heading home for the holidays.
