Green Valley in Wanowrie has set to become the first society in the neighbourhood to install rooftop solar panels. The rooftop solar project has 174 panels each generating 380 watts on an area of 6000 square feet.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, secretary, Avro Chatterjee said, “Our society has several green projects such as composting, rain water harvesting. We were planning to install solar panels which would help us save our funds. And that happened last week. The work is over and the project is functioning successfully. Our major electricity consumption was taken by lifts, water pumps, and common areas.”

“In the rooftop solar project, we are generating 66 kilo watt, which is exactly our consumption too. With this we shall save on our expenses of Rs 1.5 lakhs. The total expenses of installation are Rs 33 lakhs. For this project we have not taken a single rupee from our members. Instead, we have taken a loan on our deposits which will be repaid through the money we will be saving. The project offers a three year break even period and our loan is also termed for the same period. We are proud that we have several green projects on our campus,” Chatterjee added.
