On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made accusations that seemed to be directed against the opposition, claiming that efforts are being made to incite instability and chaos in the nation during the election season. PM Modi declared that the government would support the truth and encouraged the Election Commission to take action.

Speaking during a campaign stop for BJP nominee and 13th descendent of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Udayanraje Bhonsle, Modi claimed that people who are unable to engage in political discourse with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) over issues, facts and their work are disseminating false videos on social media in an effort to engender unrest in the society.

Bhonsle is engaged in a fierce battle in Satara against Shashikant Shinde, the nominee of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar). Speaking of phoney videos created with artificial intelligence (AI), Modi referred to the most recent advancements as being a matter of worry.

He also spoke about how fake videos of him, Amit Shah, J.P. Nadda and various BJP chief ministers are being circulated to instigate hostile sentiment among the public. He alleged that the Congress intends to stir up a big mess in the upcoming election month because it will go against the opposition’s plans to let the elections take place peacefully. He added that there are games being played whereby social tension leads to undesirable incidents.

He urged the crowd to spot these false videos and images and to report to the police as and when these fake visuals are received by them. He also emphasised on being cautious while sharing these videos since they might end up landing innocent people into serious legal trouble.

The PM prompted the election commission to be on its feet and take necessary steps against those who propagate fake videos. He went on to allege that the Congress has introduced a religion-based reservation system in India and said that the party’s motives were obvious in Karnataka when it put all Muslims under the OBC category.

He called out the opposition for having a leadership crisis while pitching forward his party to the public and saying that it will work on the growth of the nation in the coming 5 years.

Lastly, he added that the focal point of his government has been to deliver social justice in the last decade, whereas the opposition has just hindered the rights of SCs, STs and OBCs in the last 6 decades.
