The Airport police have launched a crackdown on illegal firecracker stalls operating on Porwal Road, with 14 stalls found to be lacking necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the civic fire brigade, sky sign, and police departments.
A vigilant citizen tipped off the police control room, expressing concerns that the crackers sold at these stalls posed a threat to public safety. Following this, a police team verified the stalls and found them to be operating illegally. Assistant Inspector Chandan Vijay said, “We registered two FIRs against stall operators after they failed to furnish requisite permissions issued by the concerned authorities.”
The police took swift action, collecting samples of firecrackers from the stalls and directing operators to shut down. Notices were also issued to operators to cooperate with the police during investigations. This is not the first time the police have taken action against illegal firecracker stalls. Previously, FIRs were registered against five operators for operating without security and safety measures.
Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma assured while talking to media that other police stations are also taking action against illegal firecracker stalls across the city. The police have written to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) seeking the demolition of these illegal stalls to ensure public safety during the festive season.
