In a shocking hit-and-run incident that has sparked new concerns over road safety in the national capital, a Delhi traffic officer was dragged over 20 meters on the bonnet of a car during an attempted escape by the driver. Police have swiftly filed a case against the accused under charges of attempted murder and obstructing a public servant’s duties, with the car owner identified and an arrest expected soon.

The incident unfolded around 7:45 PM at the Ber Sarai traffic light near Vedant Deshika Marg. According to officials from Kishan Garh police station, they received an urgent call reporting that a car had struck two officers before fleeing the scene.

Disturbing footage of the incident has since circulated widely across social media platforms. One video shows two officers clinging to the vehicle’s bonnet as the driver, undeterred, continues to speed away. Reports indicate that the driver managed to escape after the incident.

“The injuries sustained by ASI Pramod and Head Constable Sailesh were minor, but the driver’s intent was clearly to kill them,” a police spokesperson said. “We have filed charges for attempted murder, obstruction of duty, and endangering public safety.”

Following the event, a police team was dispatched to the site, and the two injured officers—Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Pramod and Head Constable Sailesh Chouhan—were promptly transported to Safdarjung Hospital by a PCR van. Medical staff have confirmed that both officers are in stable condition.

According to police reports, the officers had been conducting routine traffic checks and issuing fines when the head constable signaled for the car to stop after it ran a red light. While the driver initially appeared to comply, he then accelerated in an attempt to flee, dragging the officers along the vehicle’s bonnet for approximately 20 meters before making a getaway.

The Delhi Police have reiterated their commitment to pursuing the case to its fullest, aiming to ensure that the accused driver faces serious legal consequences for endangering public safety and the lives of on-duty officers.
