From Waiter to Puranpoli Mogul: KR Bhaskar's Inspiring Journey of Success
After a humble start, Bhaskar built a thriving brand, ‘Puranpoli Ghar of Bhaskar’, now earning crores each month from his beloved snack.
KR Bhaskar, hailing from Karnataka, has transformed his passion for Puranpoli into a multi-crore enterprise, with his brand becoming synonymous with the popular snack across Karnataka and Maharashtra. With a net profit of ₹3.6 crores in the current financial year, Bhaskar’s business is a testament to hard work and resilience.
His journey began at the tender age of 12, when he took up a job as a waiter in a Bangalore hotel. For five years, Bhaskar cleaned tables and washed utensils before moving on to work as a dance instructor and experimenting with various small businesses, including a pan shop, none of which proved successful. At 23, he found his true calling: selling Puran Poli from a bicycle on the streets of Mumbai.

Bhaskar gained significant recognition after appearing on Shark Tank India Season 2, which propelled his brand into the spotlight. His success was also aided by a cooking show that inspired him to enhance his recipes and branding. Currently, Bhaskar operates 17 outlets and has over 10 franchisees in Karnataka, opening a new location approximately every eight months. His business generates around ₹18 crores in monthly earnings.
Puran Poli Ghar specializes in fresh, organic Puran Poli, offering 24 different varieties without any chemicals or preservatives, ensuring a homemade taste. They cater to events and festivals and have a menu boasting 400 different snacks. Bhaskar’s vision is to expand to over 100 outlets across India, and he sells around 1,000 Puran Polis daily.
Bhaskar’s journey is a remarkable example of perseverance. From humble beginnings washing dishes to establishing a beloved brand, his story inspires aspiring entrepreneurs to pursue their passions and believe in their dreams.
