Maharashtra TET Exam to Use AI Surveillance for First Time: 18,000 CCTV Cameras Installed"
The Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), organized by the Maharashtra State Council of Examination, is set to take place this Sunday, November 10. For the first time, the exam will use artificial intelligence (AI) and extensive CCTV coverage to prevent malpractices and ensure a fair examination process.
A total of 18,000 CCTV cameras have been installed across all classrooms at 1,023 exam centers in Maharashtra. The live feeds from these cameras will be streamed directly to a central control room (war room) at the Council’s headquarters. The AI system will closely monitor every movement within the classrooms, aiming to detect and report any unusual behavior.
This year’s TET has seen a large number of registrations, with 3,53,952 candidates in total. Of these, 1,52,605 students are registered for Paper 1, 2,01,347 for Paper 2, and 75,996 for both papers. Due to the sensitivity of the exam, new security measures include frisking, biometric attendance with face recognition, and enhanced AI surveillance.
Dr. Nandkumar Bedse, Chairman of the Maharashtra State Council of Examination and Commissioner Anuradha Oak announced these measures in a press briefing. The AI system will alert the control room if there is overcrowding, invigilators standing still without monitoring, rearrangement of seating by students, or any other irregular activities. Immediate instructions will then be relayed to the Centre Director for action.
Security protocols also include frisking of all students and examination staff using metal detectors to prevent electronic devices or metal items from being brought inside. Biometric attendance with face recognition will be mandatory for entry.
This year’s TET will be conducted in Marathi, English, Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Gujarati, and Sindhi. Students are advised to arrive at the exam center 90 minutes before the start of the exam for security checks.
