Cooler Days Ahead: Pune’s Minimum Temperature to Drop Around Voting Day
IMD forecasts a drop in minimum temperatures
Pune is set to witness dry weather on November 20, the voting day, as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The city’s minimum temperature is expected to drop by 2-3°C, following a recent rise caused by a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal.
On November 13, Pune recorded its lowest minimum temperature of the season at 14.6°C, which was close to below-normal levels. However, within three days, the minimum temperature spiked to 20.5°C, 5.8°C above normal.
Meteorologists attribute this temperature increase to moisture incursion due to a low-pressure system, which also brought cloudy conditions over the last few days. As this system weakens, the city is poised to experience clearer skies and cooler nights.
Forecast Highlights
• Minimum Temperature: Likely to range between 15-17°C for the next 4-5 days, including November 20.
• Maximum Temperature: Expected to remain stable across Pune and neighboring regions.
• Other Regions in Maharashtra:
• Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada: No major changes in maximum temperatures for the next two days, followed by a 1-2°C drop. Minimum temperatures may rise slightly by 1-2°C in the next 24 hours but are expected to decline thereafter.
Senior Meteorologist, IMD Pune, “With no active weather systems over Maharashtra, the atmosphere’s moisture content has significantly reduced. This will lead to a gradual drop in temperatures.”
Anupam Kashyapi, Former Head of Weather and Forecasting, IMD Pune: “The reduced cloud cover will allow longwave radiation to escape from the earth’s surface more effectively. This natural cooling process will likely bring the season’s lowest temperatures during this period.”
Implications for Voting Day
Voters in Pune can expect pleasant, dry weather with cooler mornings on November 20. The comfortable conditions are likely to make it easier for citizens to participate in the electoral process.
This period also offers an opportunity for residents to enjoy the season’s mild chill before the onset of winter’s full force.
