Pune Outperforms Other Urban Districts with 61.05% Voter Turnout, Says Suhas Diwase
Pune recorded the highest voter turnout among urban districts in Maharashtra with an overall voting percentage of 61.05%, according to District Collector Suhas Diwase. Among the constituencies, Maval assembly segment showed the highest increase in voter turnout, rising by 16% compared to the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Pune outperformed other urban districts like Thane (56.05%), Nagpur (60.49%), Mumbai Suburban (55.77%), and Mumbai City (52.07%). Only Nashik, with over 67% voter turnout, surpassed Pune.
Constituencies like Maval, Daund, Bhosari, Shirur, and Khed-Alandi witnessed over 10% rise in voting compared to the recent Lok Sabha elections. Indapur, Bhor, Ambegaon, Purandar, and Khadakwasla, compared to the recent Lok Sabha elections, saw an increase of 5-10%. However, Kasba, Kothrud, and Pune Cantonment reported a slight dip. All other assembly constituencies recorded a 1-5% increase.
Maval registered the highest turnout of 72.1%, a 16% rise. Daund, Junnar, and Khed-Alandi each saw a 12% increase. Junnar also recorded an 11% overall rise.
The increase in voting was attributed to efforts like voter outreach and sanitization of voter lists.
Diwase said over 60,000 forms were filled on the spot during the Lok Sabha elections for voters who couldn’t find their names. Additionally, over 7 lakh new voters were added to the rolls between January and now. Around 200 new polling booths were also set up, and efforts were made to ensure voters knew their polling locations.
The counting of votes for the eight assembly constituencies in Pune City will be held at the FCI godown in Koregaon Park on November 23. Votes for Bhosari and Pimpri will be counted at the Balewadi Sports Complex, while Pimpri-Chinchwad and other talukas will have counting at their respective locations.
