Raghu Ram on Shedding His ‘Roadies’ Persona, Divorce, and Finding Clarity in Life
Raghu Ram, creator of MTV Roadies, opened up about transforming his aggressive on-screen persona and embracing a calmer, kinder self after becoming a father. Speaking on the untriggered with AminJaz podcast, he also reflected on his past relationships and the challenges he faced.
Raghu revealed that his angry image on TV was a defense mechanism, while he is non-confrontational in real life. The birth of his son, Rhythm, in 2020, inspired him to change. “I avoid social media, the news, and subjects like religion and politics now,” he said.
Discussing his separation from his first wife, Sugandha Garg (whom he calls Kuhu), Raghu said it was a tough period. “My divorce nearly killed me. It gave me clarity about relationships,” he said, adding that they remain friends.
Raghu also spoke about meeting his current wife, singer Natalie Di Luccio. He disclosed that Sugandha was the first person he told about Natalie. “We clicked immediately,” he said.
Before their marriage, Natalie’s family had reservations because of Raghu’s Roadies image. “Her family held an intervention, worried she was marrying ‘the most abusive guy in India,’” he said. However, Natalie’s mother defended him, calling him “the sweetest guy.”
Reflecting on relationships, Raghu said he’s realized he has a “type.” Both his wives are creative but have very different personalities. He added, “It’s not about physical appearance.”
Raghu concluded by emphasizing how life changes have helped him grow. “I’ve shed that version of myself for my own good,” he said.
