Pune: Speeding Car Kills Pet Dog In Swargate; Driver Booked
PUNE: A tragic incident unfolded in Pune’s Swargate area when a speeding car fatally struck a pet dog near Purnima Towers on Sunday. Following a complaint by Padmini Peter Stump, founder of Mission Possible Trust, the Swargate police have filed a case against the driver under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
The incident occurred when the driver, a resident of Gultekdi, was driving his car out of the Purnima Tower premises, where his office is located. The pet dog was run over by the car, leading to its instant death. The dog’s owner immediately reported the incident to Mission Possible Trust, prompting the trust to take up the case.
Police visited the scene, secured CCTV footage from the area, and identified the vehicle through its registration number. Based on the evidence, driver was charged for the act of negligence leading to the dog’s death.
This incident follows other alarming cases of animal cruelty in Pune, including a shooting incident involving a barking dog in Parvati Darshan last month and the hanging of a stray dog in Mulshi. These cases have sparked outrage, with public figures like MLA Aaditya Thackeray calling for strict action against perpetrators.
