Senior IPS officer threatens resident doctor at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, captured on video

Senior IPS officer threatens resident doctor at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, captured on video.
The altercation allegedly arose from discontent regarding the care provided to his wife, who was undergoing postoperative recovery.
Brijendra Kumar Yadav, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Armed Police and Training in Puducherry, took his wife, Anita Roy, to the hospital’s Sports Injury Centre (SIC) after her surgery. Tensions rose when Yadav confronted Dr. Lakshya, a resident in the surgery department On Sunday, operations in the emergency ward at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi were temporarily halted.
The event sparked significant protests from the hospital’s medical personnel. Doctors halted their duties in the emergency department until the issue was resolved, causing a temporary disruption in operations. Emergency services only resumed after the hospital allegedly asked Yadav and his wife to vacate the premises.
As reported by witnesses referenced in The New Indian Express, Yadav, along with multiple individuals dressed in police uniforms, confronted Dr. Lakshya in an intimidating manner, yelling and exhibiting aggressive gestures. A CCTV video claimed to capture the event, depicts a man, believed to be Yadav, gesturing angrily and directing his finger at the doctor. Although the footage does not include sound, the body language unmistakably conveys a sense of hostility.
An audio recording, subsequently disseminated by the official X account of the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) at Safdarjung Hospital, purportedly features Yadav stating, “I have studied twice as much as you have, so do not consider yourself irreplaceable.”

“The resident doctor was verbally assaulted and threatened regarding his career while assessing the patient. My colleagues and seniors raised concerns with the authorities, but we received no satisfactory response from either the SIC consultant or the hospital administration. Consequently, we were compelled to withdraw our duties in the emergency ward until the matter was resolved,” says Dr Rajat Gangwar, a senior resident in the SIC department.
“Brijendra Kumar Yadav (IPS Officer), and the husband of patient Anita Roy (admitted to the seventh floor of the SIC building), engaged in behaviour that was both disgraceful and unacceptable. Such actions, particularly from a senior government official, are highly condemnable and violate the dignity of healthcare professionals who work tirelessly to serve patients,” says the Residents Doctors’ Association of the Safdarjung Hospital.
