Tehri Lake's New Cruise Ship: A Must-Visit for Tourists Seeking Uttarakhand's Scenic Beauty
Uttarakhand Launches Cruise Ship on Lake Tehri to Boost Tourism and Empower Local Communities
Uttarakhand has taken a significant step to enhance its tourism sector by launching a cruise ship service on Lake Tehri. This initiative is aimed at boosting the local economy, promoting village tourism, and attracting a larger number of visitors to the region. Vijay Bisht, the manager of the cruise ship, described the service as an “unprecedented move” that will bring new opportunities to the area.
Bisht emphasized the untapped potential of Tehri Dam, which is the highest dam in the world, and highlighted how the cruise ship initiative aims to uplift local communities. Many residents reportedly felt disheartened after the dam’s construction. The cruise service, along with a focus on promoting tourism in nearby villages, is expected to revitalize the spirits of locals and bring economic benefits to the region.
In addition to the cruise service, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced a 25% discount on stays at GMVN (Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam) hotels to encourage winter tourism. During a meeting at the secretariat, CM Dhami stressed the importance of strengthening security for tourists traveling in winter and ensuring an efficient emergency management system during extreme weather conditions.
The Chief Minister also instructed officials to focus on promoting lesser-known winter destinations in the state. He highlighted the need for developing parking facilities along key travel routes and upgrading infrastructure to accommodate an increasing number of devotees visiting Chardham. Preparations for the 2025 Chardham Yatra have already begun to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage experience.
Further, the Uttarakhand government is prioritizing health services, cleanliness, and safe accommodations for both tourists and pilgrims. The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has been directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply in popular tourist areas such as Mussoorie, Auli, Joshimath, Dhanaulti, Haridwar, and Rishikesh. The UPCL has issued detailed guidelines to its regional units to guarantee the availability of essential resources in these locations.
These measures, combined with the introduction of the Lake Tehri cruise ship service, reflect the state government’s commitment to making Uttarakhand a premier destination for winter tourism and spiritual travel.
