Pune Airport To Shift Immigration Services To New Terminal In January
In a move that is expected to bring relief to flyers, the immigration services for international flights at Pune airport will be shifted to the new terminal building in January 2025. This was announced by Union minister of state for civil aviation Murlidhar Mohol.
Mohol informed that flyers will also be able to enter the new terminal building using DigiYatra from next month. “With immigration facilities moving, we also look forward to all international flights getting shifted to the facility soon,” he added.
Once the immigration facility is shifted to the new building, authorities would need a week to 10 days to move all flights to the new terminal. Another airport official stated that it won’t take long once immigration facilities are shifted.
Currently, 19 flights, including all 4 international flights, are operating from the old terminal. The fifth international flight, to Bangkok, will begin on December 21. The airport records between 196 to 198 flight movements in a day, with 80% of these operating from the new building.
Flyers have been complaining about the confusion they face regarding which terminal their domestic flights will take off from. Rajesh Patil, a frequent flyer, said, “It is the need of the hour considering the old building no longer has many facilities. The new building became operational in July, but all flights have still not shifted.”
Flyers have also pointed out that the non-functioning of DigiYatra at the new building has caused problems. “The whole idea of DigiYatra is seamless entry and check-in. The new building is witnessing long queues during check-ins. I hope they start soon,” said Ratna More, another frequent flyer.
The new building has 15 DigiYatra gates, and authorities are expected to start the service soon.
