Pune: Khadki Cantonment Board, Maha Metro At Odds Over Debris Dumping

Pune: Historic Name ‘Khadki’ Restored To Cantonment After 200 Years
A dispute has erupted between the Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) and Maha Metro over the dumping of debris in the Range Hills area. The KCB claims that Maha Metro has failed to remove the debris, despite repeated requests, while Maha Metro denies any involvement.
KCB CEO Meenakshi Lohia while communicating with Times Of India stated that, the board has written two letters to Maha Metro, but has received no response. “The debris is not only an eyesore but also a health hazard, and we urge Maha Metro to take immediate action,” she said.
However, Maha Metro Executive Director Hemant Sonawane denied the allegations, stating to the media person that the organization has not dumped any debris or garbage in the area. “We are not aware of any correspondence from KCB on this matter,” he said.
Residents of Range Hills have expressed their concerns about the debris, citing health issues and mosquito breeding sites. “The situation was particularly bad during the monsoon, when rainwater accumulated in the area due to the debris,” said a local resident.
The Range Hills area is a sensitive zone, with several residential quarters and defense establishments nearby. The KCB and Maha Metro must work together to resolve the issue and ensure that the area is cleaned up and restored to its original state.
