Kalyan Tragedy: Grieving Parents Seek CM's Intervention Before Last Rites
In a tragic case from Kalyan, the parents of a 12-year-old girl, who was kidnapped and murdered, have refused to perform her last rites until they meet Maharashtra Chief Minister. The family is in shock and has demanded justice before proceeding with the funeral.
The girl was kidnapped on Monday afternoon from Kolsewadi in Kalyan while playing outside her house. Her body was found near Bhiwandi on Tuesday morning. Police arrested the main accused, Vishal Gawli, from Shegaon in Buldhana district on Wednesday. Gawli, who has a criminal record, was caught while leaving a salon after shaving his beard to hide his identity.
Gawli’s third wife, Sakshi Gawli, and another person were also arrested. Sakshi, a bank employee, has been remanded in police custody for two days. An autorickshaw used in the crime has been seized.
The motive for the murder is unclear. Police are interrogating 10 people, including the accused’s relatives, and are examining CCTV footage. A postmortem report is awaited to confirm if the victim was sexually assaulted.
Local citizens staged protests in Kolsewadi, demanding capital punishment for the accused. BJP MLA Ravindra Chavan and Kalyan MP Shrikant Shinde have assured support for a fast-track trial and a death sentence for the accused.
The Chief Minister has also promised strict action. Meanwhile, police are trying to convince the family to perform the girl’s last rites.
This case has sparked outrage, with residents demanding swift justice for the victim.
