Pimpri Chinchwad, January 6, 2025: To combat the growing issue of open garbage dumping, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Health Department has launched a proactive cleanliness initiative. The drive focuses on monitoring and beautifying 80 identified spots across eight regional offices to ensure a garbage-free city.

After removing public garbage bins, it was observed that residents began discarding waste in open spaces. The Health Department conducted a detailed survey to pinpoint the most affected areas and decided to alter the timings of garbage collection vehicles in these locations. Beautification projects will also be undertaken to transform these sites. Furthermore, strict penalties will be imposed on individuals found dumping waste in the open.

Preparation for Swachh Survekshan 2025
With the annual Swachh Survekshan assessment by the central government scheduled for February, the department is taking early measures to improve sanitation. This survey evaluates cleanliness in slums, markets, public toilets, and roads, assigning cleanliness rankings to cities nationwide.

Additional Measures
Assistant Commissioner Ajinkya Yele emphasized that each of the eight regional offices would assign ten officials to oversee the cleanliness of ten specific sites, ensuring sustained hygiene. To address the shortage of public toilets on main and internal roads, the PCMC will urge petrol pump owners to provide functional and accessible toilets for public use. Letters will be sent, and inspections conducted after a month to ensure compliance. Non-compliant petrol pumps will face legal notices.
