PUNE: The death of an 86-year-old patient, Tejraj Jain, during treatment at Bharti Hospital in Dhankawadi triggered a violent outburst by his relatives on Monday afternoon. The incident left six people injured and caused significant damage to hospital property.
Accusations of Medical Negligence
The altercation began around 12:30 p.m. in the outpatient department when Jain’s relatives accused the hospital of medical negligence. Their frustration quickly escalated into physical and verbal abuse, targeting security personnel and medical staff. Dr. Ankita Arpit Grover, one of the assaulted doctors, later filed a police complaint.
Property Vandalized
In their rage, the family members damaged hospital property, including shattering a glass cabin by throwing a wooden stool. The escalating tension prompted the dispatch of a police team to restore order.
Legal Action and Investigation
The Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station registered a case under the Maharashtra Medical Services Act against those involved in the violence. Authorities have assured a thorough investigation to address the incident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
